What we collect, and why.
Plain terms. This covers this website and the other websites we own and operate as a group.
A first-party visitor id
When you arrive we set a first-party identifier in your browser. It is a random string. It is not your name, it does not come from a third party, and it is not shared with anyone as an advertising identifier. Its job is to let us tell one visit apart from another, and to join the pages you looked at with a message you send us, so a reply makes sense in context.
Because the same identifier is used across the websites this group owns and runs, a visit that starts on one of our sites and continues on another is recognised as the same visit. It does not follow you anywhere we do not own.
What is recorded
- Pages viewed, the order you viewed them in, and how you arrived.
- Clicks, scrolling and other interactions with the page, including session replay, which records how the page was used rather than anything typed into a password field.
- Technical information your browser sends: device and browser type, approximate location from your network address, and your network address itself.
- What you type into a form or into the assistant, once you send it. Until you send it, we have not received it.
- Sign-in attempts on the client login page: the address given, the time and the network address. The password is never stored and never compared against anything, because no client access is provisioned through that page yet.
Why we hold it
To answer you properly, to understand which parts of the site are useful, to keep the site working, and to spot abuse. We do not use it to make automated decisions about you.
Who processes it
We use third-party analytics and session replay providers, and email delivery providers, to run the things described above on our behalf. They are bound to process the data for us and not for their own purposes. We do not name them here because they change; if you want the current list, ask us and we will tell you.
How long it is kept
Twelve months from your last visit, after which the records are deleted. An enquiry you send us is kept for as long as we are dealing with it and for as long as our records obligations require, then deleted.
What we do not do
We do not sell your data, we do not rent it, and we do not trade it. We do not run third-party advertising profiles built from what you do here.
Your choices
You can clear the identifier at any time by clearing this site's cookies and site data in your browser, and a browser set to block cookies or to send a do-not-track signal will simply get less of the above. You can ask us what we hold about you, ask for it to be corrected, or ask for it to be deleted.
